Work in Progress
One of the plus sides of running my own business is the personal development that I’ve earned along the way. Business ownership as free therapy – who knew?!
I’m a naturally introspective person which can slow me down (I’m an over thinker from way back) but this does come with a healthy dose of self-awareness. This self-awareness has proved invaluable
Take these examples below:
I notice what I’m putting off, for example talking to my accountant or re-doing my website
I notice my feelings, for example jealousy, shame (not being good enough), overwhelm or frustration
I notice the kind of issues that keep coming up, for example difficult clients or issues around boundaries and communication
I notice what I keep finding myself doing even when I should be giving this to others. I notice when this keeps me too busy to do other work.
When I notice things I ask myself questions “what am I assuming about my finances that’s stopping me?”, “why am I letting my new website take so long and what’s that giving me in a positive way?” “what are my difficult clients trying to teach me?” “what’s my racket around the ‘busy work?” “what specifically is frustrating me and what makes that a trigger?” Staying curious is the name of the game.
I’m willing to look at myself clearly, I’m willing for it to feel super uncomfortable, I’m willing to be kind to myself in working this stuff out. Because I haven’t got it sussed, far from. I’m still learning and always will. About business, about myself. Trying, failing and trying again to be the best version of myself. I like the feeling of improvement.
I believe that personal development and business development are linked. I believe that you can’t work on your business without working on yourself. And that’s where true success lies. Describe myself in 3 words?
Work in progress.
Just how I like it.
